READ ENTIRE LISTING BEFORE PURCHASING SO THAT YOU WILL BE A HAPPY CUSTOMER! THIS LISTING IS FOR ONE CHROME-PLATED CLEVER THUMB LEVER that only fits Harley's that have a working Star Style Thumbscrew with at least a one inch space between the two throttle cables coming out of the right bottom switch housing. THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH: Harleys manufactured without a Star Thumbscrew or the Star Thumbscrew doesn't work. NO OTHER PARTS COME WITH LEVER. The diagram shows you an example of how to position lever with parts # 1, 2, 3, & 4 that you already should have on your hog for the lever to work. I should have these parts in stock along with others for your Harley while they last. Look towards the bottom of this listing & you will find the part links. READ ENTIRE LISTING FOR MORE DETAILS FOR THE CLEVER LEVER INSTALLATION. THIS NOT A CHEAP PLASTIC LEVER! THIS IS AN ACTUAL HEAVY DUTY CHROME PLATED CLEVER THUMB LEVER THAT WILL LAST FOR MANY YEARS TO COME! See picture of a dissected Clever Lever that exposes the chrome-plating layers of chromium, copper and nickel. The process of chrome-plating rigid plastic is about like metal, except the outside of the lever is coated in copper and nickel before chrome is applied. If you put a magnet up to the clever lever it will stick to a magnet because of the nickel content. With the outside covered in chromium, copper and nickel along with super strong plastic on the inside, it can withstand temperatures of 240°F (115° Celsius ) +/- without deforming. The high impact polymer with chrome-plating won’t break or crack unless you hit it with a hammer or the like. THIS CHROME CLEVER THUMB LEVER IS DESIGNED TO WORK WITH YOUR THUMBSCREW to hold your Harley's throttle at your desired RPMs. This cool gadget attaches to the Harley's STAR THUMBSCREW (AKA: Throttle Adjust Screw, Thumbwheel, Star Wheel, Throttle Lock Screw). When your engine needs to warm up, simply crank it up in neutral, adjust your throttle RPMs to where you want it & engage the CLEVER LEVER to hold in place. When your bike is warmed up, simply disengage the CLEVER LEVER back to where isn't holding the throttle. This will never fall off of your Thumbscrew because the way it fits as shown in pictures. Some riders may also use this as a poor man's cruise control to ease stress on their throttle hand. It still is over-ridable & easily adjusted - even with heavy gloves. This CLEVER THUMB LEVER is a big relief for your throttle hand on those long rides! After using this you will wonder how you ever got along without it! We all let our clutch hand rest occasionally going down the road, so doesn't your throttle hand need & deserve a break, too? Always keep safety in mind if you decide to use this as a "poor man's cruise control". Never use it in traffic, group riding, inclement weather, or conditions where it would unsafe for a cruise control or throttle lock. [DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS FOR THOSE WITHOUT MUCH EXPERIENCE] NOTE: A factory service manual is always recommended when performing any type of work on your bike as well as referring to diagram pictures above. Do not attempt to perform any installation if you are not confident in your ability; consult a trained technician.  NOTE: Put small parts into a container or something to secure them so they won’t get lost. NOTE: Depending on experience, some may opt to remove the ferrules from throttle cable end fittings inside the switch housing to make more space & easier to remove/replace parts. 1. Refer to diagram pictures above first, then w ith bike in neutral & engine off, remove switch housing screws, separating upper from lower housing.  Remove FRICTION SHOE that’s seated inside of lower switch housing & centered on top of the THUMBSCREW. Remove RETAINING CLIP seated inside of lower switch housing & centered on top of the THUMBSCREW. Then unscrew THUMBSCREW from the lower switch housing which will release the FRICTION SPRING. 2. Place CLEVER THUMB LEVER (nub side down) over THUMBSCREW & , but don't snap them together yet. If the CLEVER THUMB LEVER doesn't easily slip on the THUMBSCREW, turn the LEVER over, its tapered to fit one way (nub side down) only as pictured. This will not fit any other way . 3. Screw the THUMBSCREW back into its hole with FRICTION SPRING; & the CLEVER LEVER in verified fit position, but not snapped together it yet. 4. Attach the RETAINING CLIP to the top of the THUMBSCREW & replace the FRICTION SHOE so that it’s seated in switch housing & centered on top of the THUMBSCREW. 5. Roll the throttle back towards you about 1" or so & tighten the THUMBSCREW just enough so throttle locks in place while visually noting the point of the STAR closest to the front throttle cable. 6. Next, loosen THUMBSCREW just enough until throttle lets off & then snap the CLEVER LEVER on so the lever part will be touching the rear throttle cable. It should only take about a 1/4 turn to engage/disengage a properly working throttle. This would be the distance the CLEVER LEVER would travel back & forth touching the back then front cable. 7. Start the engine with bike in neutral & test out the CLEVER THUMB LEVER to be sure it locks & releases as it should when engine is running. If not, adjust slightly with a repeat of steps 5, 6 & 7. NOTE:   NEVER USE GLUE ON THE CLEVER LEVER because the glue will prevent adjustments in the future when/if needed as well as not allowing removal of Thumbscrew. NOTE:   NEVER FORCE THE CLEVER LEVER TO FIT.  Always keep safety in mind if you decide to use this as a "poor man's cruise control". Never use it in traffic, group riding, inclement weather, or conditions where it would unsafe for a cruise control or throttle lock. Customer bares all responsibility for safe use of this product. [QUICK INSTRUCTIONS FOR TRAINED TECHNICIANS] Refer to diagram pictures above first, then remove parts # 1, 2, 3, & 4. Place CLEVER THUMB LEVER (nub side down) over THUMBSCREW (screw side up), but don't snap them together yet. If the CLEVER THUMB LEVER doesn't easily slip on, turn it over, its tapered to fit one way (nub side down) only as pictured. This will not fit any other way.
  • Reinstall parts # 1, 2, 3, & 4 with CLEVER LEVER not snapped on THUMBSCREW yet.
  • Roll the throttle back towards you about 1" or so & tighten the THUMBSCREW just enough so throttle locks in place while visually noting the point of the STAR closest to the front throttle cable.
