We had an issue before with the little gear piece.
It would jam up when you went to kick it and get stuck in the case. Turns out you need to lubricate it. you just use a little motor oil and it worked perfectly!
When installing, the gear must be installed to the bottom. If it is not installed completely, the gear is easily damaged.
